Welcome

Welcome to placed!

This blog is intended for transracial and transnational adoptees and fosters and the friends, families, and communities that support us. The purpose of this blog is twofold. First, to provide an outlet for exploring my own, and others’ transracial adoptee and/or foster perspectives, through the use of personal narrative, poetry, and/or mixed media. Second, to provide an informational resource and gateway for those wanting to learn more about transracial and transnational adoption and foster care.

If you haven’t already, please check out the introductions post.

An important disclaimer: I do not wish to generalize the experiences of transracial, transnational adoptees or fosters. Since this blog is in its initial stages, it will primarily be written from the perspective of one transracial, transnational adoptee – me. I am seeking contributors, however. If you are an adult adoptee or foster who identifies with the content and purpose of this blog, please reach out. I would love to hear from you!

Finally, a quick note of clarification: This blog is meant to hold space for a wide range of thoughts and feelings that should not necessarily be deemed negative (or positive), unless noted by the author. This is a space primarily for adoptees and fosters, and “grateful” is not all that we are “allowed” to feel. Indeed, it is possible to both love and be part of transracial, transnational adoptive or foster families while maintaining a critical lens of the systems and experiences that shape our lives.

I hope you’ll join me and be part of an honest, critical, and at the same time, hopeful dialogue.

M.
